Job Summary:

Hands-on senior technician leading automation for CNC lathes, mills, and grinders. Programs and commissions robotic cells; supports Swiss-type (Star, Citizen), tool grinders (ANCA, Rollomatic), FOBA laser systems, and PLC/logic (incl. CREST). Drives NPI from prototype to stable production, including automation of cleaning units and scanning/vision systems.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program and optimize CNC (lathe/mill/grinder) and Swiss-type (Star/Citizen); run prove-outs, reduce cycle time, improve OEE/FPY.
  • Program, teach, and commission robots (Fanuc/ABB/KUKA) for machine tending, deburr, inspection, and palletizing; implement safety interlocks and safe states.
  • Configure and program FOBA, Control, and Anca lasering systems (marking/machining) with fixtures, vision alignment, serialization/traceability recipes.
  • Automate cleaning units (e.g., Crest Ultrasonics or similar): define validated recipes (time/temperature/ultrasonic power/chemistry), filtration, bath-life control, and acceptance criteria.
  • Integrate scanning/vision systems (Keyence/Cognex, laser scanning) for alignment and automated inspection; implement closed-loop offsets and SPC.
  • Support NPI builds and validations (IQ/OQ/PQ, PPAP/APQP); lead PFMEA/Control Plan/MSA; drive root cause (8D/5-Why) and DOE/SPC improvements.
  • Create SOPs/WIs and PM plans; train technicians; coordinate vendors/integrators; execute FAT/SAT and line moves.

Expected Areas of Competence (i.e., knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Strong CNC programming & setup (lathe/mill/grinder) and CAM (Mastercam/Esprit/SolidCAM).
  • Robot programming (Fanuc/ABB/KUKA)
  • Experience with Star/Citizen, ANCA/Walter, and FOBA, Control, Anca laser systems; GD&T and metrology (CMM/vision).
  • Comfortable working on the production floor with strong safety habits and documentation discipline.
  • Regulated industry experience (ISO 13485 / 21 CFR 820 or aerospace equivalents).
  • Data skills (Minitab, basic SQL/Python) and Lean/SMED/Kaizen exposure.

Education/Experience Requirements 

  • Typically requires Associate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technical degree or related field. A combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 6–10+ years in manufacturing automation (CNC/robotics/laser) experience.
